In 1999 the Mirage Hotel began to plan a 1500-seat Broadway-style theatre to house a production of a new Jerry Herman Musical called "Miss Spectacular". FDA, developed the geometry of the room, insuring great sightlines and terrific intimacy throughout the theatre.  FDA also planned the stage and backstage layouts, developed stage equipment budgets, and designed all stage lighting and machinery. We collaborated with architect DeRuyter Butler of Atlandia Design and Marnell Corrao. The team had completed design development when the hotel was sold, and the project abandoned.

FDA worked closely with Broadway and West End scenic designer John Napier to develop a specialized design for the stage machinery within the stagehouse.  The design was formulated to overcome the limitations of standard counterweight rigging.  This unique concept for stage equipment design was eventually utilized in Napier's design for the Broadway production of "Jane Eyre".
