Land Acknowledgement Statement

Every community owes its existence and vitality to generations from around the world who contributed their hopes, dreams, and energy to making the history that led to this moment. Some were brought here against their will, some were drawn to leave their distant homes in hope of a better life, and some have lived on this land for more generations than can be counted. Truth and acknowledgment are critical to building mutual respect and connection across all barriers of heritage and difference. We continue this effort to acknowledge what has been buried by honoring the truth.1

We acknowledge that the office of Fisher Dachs Associates sits on the ancestral homeland of the Lenape people. We pay respect to Lenape peoples — past, present, and future — and their continuing presence in the homeland and throughout the Lenape diaspora. We recognize, honor, and respect the Lenape peoples as the traditional stewards of the lands and water on which our office is now present. We acknowledge the many legacies of genocide, ethnic cleansing, stolen land, systemic oppression, and forced removal that have impacted the Lenape peoples.

We offer our acknowledgement not out of obligation or to serve protocol, but to genuinely address the harm colonialism has done to Native communities across the lands on which we now live. We are examining our place in the history of colonization and in undoing its legacy. As a first step toward honoring the truth and achieving healing and reconciliation, Fisher Dachs Associates commits to including a statement acknowledging the traditional Native lands on which we stand during our participation in public events, both virtual and in person. Land acknowledgements become truly meaningful when coupled with authentic relationships and sustained commitment, and we will partner with organizations which provide support for Indigenous rights and cultural equity.
